Induction across the children and young people’s workforce takes many different forms. There are, however, elements of an induction programme that are common to all members of the workforce. These generally centre around the use of the Common Core of Skills and Knowledge.
The CWN Vision and Principles were developed as a first step towards a common understanding and direction on induction. The Vision and Principles are forward looking, and are designed to be used as a benchmark to inform the improvement of existing practice, as well as planning future provision.
Induction covers two types of activity – workplace induction and introductory professional development.

The Induction project will promote the implementation of a common induction vision and a set of common induction principles across the whole of the children and young people’s workforce, based on the priorities suggested by the CWN Task and Finish group, set out below. The resources and project management arrangements for this project are to be agreed.
